PC Demand Takes off Ahead of Windows 7

Demand for PCs improved in July and August, which is "something special"

  1. Let me give a wholehearted endorsement to Intel's new Core i7 and Core i5 "Lynnfield" processors running Windows 7. The two work together to deliver a really fast, snappy experience with low electric power consumption. Windows 7 intelligently spreads tasks/threads across cores, but keeps core idle until needed. This is easily visibly in Windows Task Manager. A Lynnfield Core i7-870 system running Windows 7 delivers 90% - 105% of the performance of the Core i7-965 running Vista from early 2009 -- but at 30% reduced electric consumption. That's goodness.

  2. I'd like to add that even if you can't go out an buy a new computer, or upgrade your motherboard or processor, Windows 7 is smarter on power management than its predecessors, with the balanced profile power management doing a much better job than it did in Vista. I'm extremely pleased with what I'm seeing using Windows 7 on my quad-core Yorkfield - P45 based rig.
